“STRENGTH” Collection
The loss of a mentor and a period of exploration lead Coffman to find his loudest voice as an artist through his body of work entitled “22:17 series”. This series combined his love of athletic competition, grueling physical regimentation, as well as art to make a statement. Using the iconic symbol of strongman competition, Coffman covered a 500 lb. tractor tire in paint and flipped it non-stop on a piece of raw canvas for 22:17, reaching physical exhaustion. Making the task even harder, he wore a 25 lb. weight vest. This piece lead to another smaller piece entitled “8:40″, where Coffman flipped the same tire covered in paint over a free flowing graffiti piece on canvas for a shorter amount of time. The shorter time was due to a double hernia he acquired while making these works. The operation images are the final image in this gallery.
