Military Inspired Work

My current body of work is focused on the deployment stories of special force military groups and their vulnerable, poignant moments in an otherwise brutal experience. Working closely with members of various Seal units and Ranger battalions, I have collected imagery and conducted interviews with both active and inactive servicemen and women. The first piece in this series pays homage to a close friend and Army Ranger, Sgt. Robert Sanchez. During a deployment to Afghanistan in 2009, Sanchez was killed by an IED explosion. The painting shows the members of his battalion loading his coffin onto a plane to be shipped home during his repatriation ceremony.
